Click for a bigger pic04/01/11: In November I re-vamped my computer and in the process upgraded to Windows 7 (64-bit) and installed my TV Card with TV Cenre 6.4.0.784.

To start with it looks pretty different with a yellow and black colour scheme and new 'toolbar'.

Installation went without fault as did the channel scanning process (something I've had problems with when using other versions of the software). And day-to-day running has been pretty pain-free, just the occasional glitch or missed recording. Sometimes I found that if the signal wasn't too good or was interferred with (such as by a mobile phone) is where it would previously corrupt the recording, now the recordings remain stable. I have found that occasionally though, recordings gain a glitch whereby they play fine, but if you come to skip ahead the recording plays fast and you have to go back to find a point where that doesn't happen and just leave it to play without skipping.

To provide a more thorough review, I must say I'm not totally impressed by the 'boxyness' of the software with separate applications for everything, TV, radio, EPG (extended programme guide), Gallery and Recording Tasks. It would be nice to see the final three combined so when you're browsing the EPG you can see from there if you've already set something to record. Having said that, I expect if you use Windows 'Media Center' option you'll get a more streamlined interface more suited to arm-chair viewing.

A word of caution about the Gallery. If you delete something from here, it doesn't end up in your recycle bin like it does if you delete it from Windows Explorer. I've accidentally deleted a couple of recordings now and been annoyed with myself!

I like how you can see the information about what you're currently watching on TV, the current progress and what's on next. And the ability to search the EPG is great.

The progress bar for when watching a recorded or paused programme is short - it would be nice if it was the width of the window for more precise skipping. I have also noticed with skipping in paused and recorded programs that it seems that no matter what you set the length of the skip to be in the settings, it remains the same in the application... which is annoying because skipping forwards has a different skip-length to skipping back.

A feature that didn't seem to be present before is the ability to listen to the radio whilst recording a TV programme. This is a nice addition as it always felt like an oversight before.

Studio 10:
Sadly this video editing software that was originally supplied with the device does not work with Windows 7 64-bit (I was previously using Windows XP). When trying to run the software I get an error along the lines of the "procedure entry point mpheaprealloc".
